Felt Cupcake

Here's another handmade toy my 20 month old loves! A cupcake made out of felt. I free handed the outline for the cupcake and used that outline as a template for the size of the wrapper, icing and cherry on top.  The sprinkles are made from felt scraps from other projects.

My 20 month old loves to take these apart and stack them back together. We talk about the different colors and number of pieces in each set and how the felt feels. But her favorite part is a big handful of "sprinkles" to drop on the icing.

None of these pieces are sewn, just cut, so older children could help with these. Each piece of 8 1/2 x 11 felt cost me 29¢ and four pieces of felt should yield three full cupcakes with a little left over. Not bad, $1.16 for three cupcakes! Or more if you choose to make them smaller. K.

Toddler Pretend Kitchen Picture

Here's the finished project!... For now at least :-) I'd still like to paint the inside and add a cute cafe name on the outside but I wanted to test my 20 month olds level of interest first. And it went great! She loves this new toy! She likes to play in her kitchen when my husband and I are busy making dinner or doing dishes.

She also has a pot, pan and whisk (not pictured) and loves to "stir it up!"

This toy is great because it can be made from things you have on hand. Even if you purchase new items, you can buy them from a dollar store and spend around five dollars or less! K.
