10 Slightly Random Things My Kids Will Know

1. God loves each and every person and so should they.
2. I love their father. Their father loves me.
3. I love them. Their father loves them.
4. I budget because I want to give them the most I can.
5. Determination is all it takes to reach a goal, the rest is in the details.
6. Honesty isn't the best policy, it's the only policy, everything else is just an excuse.
7. Home made is always better than store bought.
8. "It's not hard to make decisions once you know what your values are."
9. My time spent with them and their father is my favorite time of the day.
10. I make every decision with them in mind, even if the decision wasn't my best, I never forgot about them in the process.

This was just a small list of ten things that have been on my mind recently (and they are really not in any specific order). I'll try to add more lists of 10 as the days go by. Leave a comment and let me know what you would add to the list! K.

Nothing Worth Having Comes Easy

Nothing worth having comes easy.

Have you heard this before? I've heard this plenty of times. But do you understand it? Do you really get it? Are you truly listening?

Read it again: Nothing worth having comes easy.

These 5 words can calm so many complaints. Bring peace during struggle. You're in pain now, not easy. The comfort you will feel later, worth it. You're tired now, not easy. The rest you will feel later, worth it. You're uncomfortable now, not easy. The confidence you will feel later, worth it.

Just remember, simple concept. Big idea. K.

My Husband Is Not My Best Friend

It's true.

My husband is not my best friend, he is my husband.

The word "husband" has lost some it's weight with the rise in divorce rates and the general mentality of the 'entitlement generation.' There is this idea that no human can be closer to me than my best friend so hopefully husband will be my best friend too. And that, like best friends, I can just find a new one when I come to a new season in my life.

Wrong.

Disclaimer: My best friends are amazing. But my best friends live out of state, they have missed important events in my life, like my wedding or the births of my children. Sometimes they don't call me back or respond to my texts. They don't help me raise my children, pay my bills or do the housework.

My husband is my husband.

He is the provider for my family. He is my helpmate. He is the father of my children. He is the leader of our household. He will change with me and our family through each new season of life.

Let's just say it. He's pretty awesome. :)

My husband is my husband. And I wouldn't have it any other way. K.

Tip Of The Day 05-11-12

When switching your toddler from thick sturdy board books to books with much thinner paper pages use coloring books at first. You can find cheap coloring books at dollar stores and in dollar spots that have all the same favorite Disney and Sesame Street characters as the more expensive coloring books found in the magazine aisles. This helped my toddler learn to turn pages without tearing them, while keeping her quietly entertained so I could make dinner many nights! K.

Felt Cupcake

Here's another handmade toy my 20 month old loves! A cupcake made out of felt. I free handed the outline for the cupcake and used that outline as a template for the size of the wrapper, icing and cherry on top.  The sprinkles are made from felt scraps from other projects.

My 20 month old loves to take these apart and stack them back together. We talk about the different colors and number of pieces in each set and how the felt feels. But her favorite part is a big handful of "sprinkles" to drop on the icing.

None of these pieces are sewn, just cut, so older children could help with these. Each piece of 8 1/2 x 11 felt cost me 29¢ and four pieces of felt should yield three full cupcakes with a little left over. Not bad, $1.16 for three cupcakes! Or more if you choose to make them smaller. K.

Toddler Pretend Kitchen Picture

Here's the finished project!... For now at least :-) I'd still like to paint the inside and add a cute cafe name on the outside but I wanted to test my 20 month olds level of interest first. And it went great! She loves this new toy! She likes to play in her kitchen when my husband and I are busy making dinner or doing dishes.

She also has a pot, pan and whisk (not pictured) and loves to "stir it up!"

This toy is great because it can be made from things you have on hand. Even if you purchase new items, you can buy them from a dollar store and spend around five dollars or less! K.
